Sometimes the story is beautifully simple. Unlike many of the pieces here, which seem to arrive from somewhere beyond explanation, this one had a clear destination from the very start. I knew exactly what I wanted: a design that captured the atom — not a modern interpretation, but the classic atomic model we all learned in school. CURIOSITY
Neon atoms have 10 electrons and the shell structure is 2.8. The ground state electron configuration of ground state gaseous neutral neon is [He]. 2s2. 2p6 and the term symbol is 1S0. Neon is the second-lightest noble gas, after helium. Like other noble gases, neon is colorless and odorless. It glows reddish-orange in a vacuum discharge tube. It has over 40 times the refrigerating capacity (per unit volume) of liquid helium and three times that of liquid hydrogen. In most applications it is a less expensive refrigerant than helium. Despite helium surpassing neon in terms of ionization energy, neon is theorized to be the least reactive of all the elements, even less so than the former.
