TOL - Tree of life - Sterling Silver - 925 - Ring
There are many interpretations of the ‘Tree of Life’. Loosely interpreted it means an ancient path that leads to the discovery of eternity, where eternity means what is immortal within us.
In 2020 I participated in a course by Italian philologist Igor Sibaldi regarding this topic.
Philosophy, psychology and metaphysics are realms that I have loved to explore over the years.
In an attempt to simplify a very complex subject I will simply say that it is a map of our psyche that leads to the knowledge of some so-called ‘higher’ functions of the psyche itself.
This ring is my interpretation and I hope bring these concepts to life
The Tree of life - Final piece
I wanted to give this ring an antique effect, by using Liver of Sulfur it creates a dark patina throughout the ring. This patina is then physically removed from the surface area leaving the dark effect only in the deep crevices, thus giving the ring this extraordinary depth of chiaroscuro (black and white).
The story
The Tree of Life first appeared in Spain in the 13th century, when mystical doctrines spread orally or entrusted to writing within elite circles were called Qabbalah and emerged from secrecy. In Hebrew, Qabbalah properly means “the act of receiving”, a term that should be understood here in the sense of incorporating a tradition that is handed down.
What is it?
It is the map of all worlds, human, angelic and divine, with directions for inhabiting them.
The Jewish Qabbalah has been studying this for nine centuries.
What is it for?
It is a path to assimilate to God
Elegant
I have always put elegance above fashion, of course fashion is important and trends come and go, but lately the need for self-expression and experimentation has led from the path of elegance. The trend to tattoo is proof of the desire to express yourself and self-expression is really very important but we are constantly changing and what we wanted to express yesterday is not always what we intend to express today.
With a ring on your finger you can do all of the above, express yourself and be elegant without having to bind yourself forever to the same vision. A ring is forever but you can always take it off in the evening and change it the following day.
Even elegance is a movement in time and we can and we will change with it.Â
